Is this a real app or just a website?
Both. Technically it's a Progressive Web App (PWA) โ€” modern web technology that lets the same website install on your device like a native app. Once installed, it looks, feels, and behaves like an app: home-screen icon, fullscreen mode, offline support, push-ready. No app store needed.
Why isn't it on the App Store / Play Store?
PWAs deliver everything an app store wrapper would, with zero compliance overhead. We can ship updates instantly (no Apple review delays), you don't need to "update" the app โ€” it auto-updates. And no app-store fees means we stay free, forever.
Will it auto-update?
Yes โ€” silently on your next launch. When we ship a new feature, you'll see a small โœจ "New version available" toast. One tap to refresh.
Does it work offline?
Partially. Recently-viewed pages and assets are cached on your device, so you can re-read them offline. Live market data and brand-new articles need a connection. When you reconnect, everything refreshes automatically.
Will I get push notifications?
The infrastructure is ready, but we haven't enabled push yet. When we do, it'll be opt-in only (you tap "Enable alerts"), targeted (breaking news for markets you follow), and unsubscribable in one tap.
How much disk space does it use?
Tiny. ~5MB for the cached app shell, plus whatever recent articles you've read. Browsers manage this automatically and never let it grow indefinitely.
Can I uninstall?
Yes. Long-press the icon and tap "Uninstall" (Android) or hold and tap "Remove App" (iOS). Or in Chrome desktop: โ‹ฎ โ†’ Uninstall Market.News. Your data clears with the app.
Will my Watchlist & Saved Articles transfer to the installed app?
Yes โ€” they're stored in your device's local storage, which the PWA can access just like the website. If you save an article in your browser then install the PWA, the saved article shows up in the PWA's /saved page.
