US equities retreated broadly as Brent crude crossing $100 revived pricing pressure fears ahead of Thursday's CPI data. Industrials (-1.51%), Consumer Staples (-1.15%), and Consumer Discretionary (-1.34%) bore the brunt — rotation out of rate-sensitive names into energy was the dominant trade. The vol surface stayed muted (VIX held flat) suggesting positioning trim rather than genuine panic, but the breadth deterioration was real.
