CXMT Q3 Revenue +600%: China's DRAM Ramp Is No Longer a Threat, It's a Reality
Chosun's report that ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) posted Q3 revenue growth of +600% year-on-year marks a structural inflection point for Korea's semiconductor cycle. CXMT is China's state-funded DRAM manufacturer — backed by NDRC capital and operating outside Nvidia GPU export controls on the logic side — and a +600% revenue ramp in a single quarter means it has crossed the threshold from pilot-scale to volume production. For Samsung Electronics (Korea's ~25% KOSPI weight) and SK Hynix, the threat is a three-front compression: DRAM ASP (average selling price) deflation as CXMT floods the legacy DDR4/LPDDR4 market; customer optionality (Chinese hyperscalers choosing domestic supply for geopolitical reasons); and HBM (High Bandwidth Memory) race acceleration as CXMT pivots toward AI memory faster than the Street expects. SK Hynix's DRAM bit growth guidance for FY2026 was predicated on supply discipline — CXMT at +600% breaks that discipline assumption. The question now is whether Samsung responds with HBM3E production acceleration (which would defend AI memory pricing) or matches CXMT on volume (which trashes legacy DRAM margins). Either answer is EWY negative in the near term.
