India Bonds Rally Most Since April, 10-Year Yield Hits 6.65%
The 10-year GoI benchmark yield fell to 6.65% on Wednesday — the steepest single-session compression since April — driven by Brent crude's post-US-midterm drop and market expectations that lower oil prices materially ease RBI's hawkish calculus on inflation. The transmission is direct: oil is 35% of India's import basket, and a sustained $5-$8 decline in Brent takes headline CPI down roughly 20-30 bps within two months, giving the MPC room to shift from its current 'withdrawal of accommodation' language. If crude holds below $78 through November, the December 6 MPC meeting becomes genuinely live for a 25 bps cut — a scenario that is now being actively discussed on bond desks, judging by today's volume-weighted move in the 10-year.
