HKMA selects 30 banks, 27 tech firms for agentic AI sandbox
Hong Kong's Monetary Authority chose 30 financial institutions and 27 technology partners to pilot 36 agentic AI use cases across risk management, AML detection, and trading compliance. This is the most ambitious AI regulatory sandbox in Asian financial markets, deliberately outpacing Singapore's MAS and Tokyo's FSA on speed-to-implementation. For global banks with HK operations — HSBC, Standard Chartered, JPMorgan — the sandbox reduces regulatory uncertainty for deploying proprietary AI, which could accelerate revenue productivity from automation investments already underway.
